Magnesium is an abundant mineral in the body that is necessary for many organs and tissues to function properly. Its deficiency has been implicated in numerous health concerns, including cardiovascular disease, behavioural problems, diabetes, chronic fatigue, migraine headaches, muscular complaints, osteoporosis, and the premenstrual syndrome. Studies indicate that a significant number of Australians fail to meet the recommended daily intake of magnesium. This may, at least in part, be due to modern day food processing, which is thought to have reduced the magnesium content in foods by more than half during this century.
